At Becoming, we believe every young woman deserves to know her worth and walk boldly in her purpose. Through mentorship, faith, and community, we help girls heal from past pain, build lasting confidence, and break generational cycles. Our mission is rooted in love, guided by faith, and driven by the belief that no girl is beyond hope or transformation. Becoming is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Becoming was birthed from a deeply personal journey — one shaped by rejection, insecurity, and the painful absence of a father figure.

Valencia Mornix-Shaw, President and Founder of Becoming, knows firsthand the lasting impact of growing up without a consistent male role model. Experiencing life in a fatherless home left her battling feelings of low self-worth, strained relationships, and unanswered questions about her identity.

But through faith, prayer, and healing, Valencia discovered her true worth — not defined by her past, but by her God-given purpose. That personal transformation ignited a calling: to help young girls facing similar struggles know they are seen, loved, and worthy of a life filled with purpose and confidence.

Today, Valencia uses her powerful testimony to serve as a trusted voice, coach, and mentor. Through Becoming, she helps young women rebuild their self-worth and step boldly into the life God intended for them, regardless of past hardships.

Seeing the impact of this work, and recognizing the need to uplift young men as well, Valencia’s husband, Travis Shaw, founded Becoming Men — the boys chapter of the movement. His mission is to equip young men to lead with character, faith, and integrity.

Together, they are creating spaces for both girls and boys to rewrite their stories, break generational cycles of brokenness, and become all that God created them to be.
